First-Time Mommies
A Star Is Born! Shower
Invitations Poem:
Twinkle Twinkle little star...
How I wonder what you are...
A little girl or little boy...
Either one will bring great joy!
Decorations: Use a clear shower curtain, clear tablecover
or clear plastic purchased from a yardage shop. Sprinkle gold
confetti stars all over the table and gently place the clear
cover over the table top.
Door Prize: Place a gold star sticker on the bottom of one
of the plates and the person with the star wins the prize.
Gift Basket Idea: Buy glow in the dark stars for the walls
and ceilings and include other baby items for a gift. Decorate
it with stars and ribbons too!
Keepsake "First" Box: Use a box and decorate it
by using decoupage or other baby designs with stars, etc.
The mommy can use this special container to keep all the "firsts"
in the box.
Once Upon A Time Shower
Ask guests to bring their favorite fairy tale book along with
their baby gift. When a gift is opened, ask the person who
gave the gift to tell why that book is their favorite.
Invitations:
Make hand designed or computer-generated invitations in the
shape of a fairy tale book.
Ice Breaker Game:
On individual pieces of paper, write the name of pairs. Give
each guest a slip of paper and ask her to find the mate. Examples:
Hansel & Gretal; Red Riding Hood and the Wolf; Goldilocks
and Baby Bear; Humpty Dumpty and the Wall, etc.
Nursery Rhymes Game:
Prepare a sheet with nursery rhyme poems, but leave off the
last line.
For example...
HUMPTY DUMPTY
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the Kings' horses and all the Kings' men,
_______________________________________________
(Remember to make a list of all the answers).
Allow guests 10 or 15 minutes to fill in all the answers.
Select one person (or the hostess) to read the poem and then
ask for the answer to the missing last line. Usually, after
the first one or two poems, everyone will join in. Some people
take this game very seriously and have a wonderful time going
back to their childhood. Mommies have it easier, but empty
nesters will be scratching their heads!

Homemade Baby Food
Making your own baby food gives you the distinct advantage of controlling what goes into your baby's sensitive tummy. You determine how much, if any, sugar and spices your baby gets. Even when found on sale for as low as 50 cents per jar, producing your own is a much less expensive alternative to ready made. Making baby food is actually very simple with a few simple tools: a blender, food processor, baby food grinder or similar machine, a steamer or boiling pot, ice cube trays, and a few minutes of your time.
